The Role of CoQ10 in Skin Repair

CoQ10, otherwise known as Coenzyme Q or Ubiquinone is a nutrient produced naturally by the human body. It is found in every cell and tissue and it was identified by the researchers of University of Wisconsin in 1957. It helps the body achieve different biological functions that is why we have the ability to produce energy, neutralize free radicals and why cells in our body are kept healthy.

Men and women below the age of thirty have the ability to produce enough CoQ10 that the body needs. There are some external factors, however, that may deplete CoQ10 in the body. This includes aging and stress. That is why there is a need to get our supply from other sources – food, supplements and skin care products. Aside from the internal benefits we get from CoQ10, it also plays an important role with the way we look.

  • Using products with CoQ10 can make our skin look younger -As we age, the amount of CoQ10 produced by the body decreases. The lack of CoQ10 may result to the underproduction of collagen and elastin, both of which are important for the skin to look firm and be flexible. Without collagen and elastin, the skin will wrinkle and sag eventually.
  • CoQ10 acts as an anti-oxidant – We all well know that free radicals cause damage to our skin and it one of the major causes of aging. If you have more CoQ10 to fight these free radicals, you slow down the process of aging.
  • Helps prevent photo aging- The sun’s rays can cause the skin to have unwanted dark spots, dark circles and wrinkles. Studies show that CoQ10 revitalizes skin cells, making them less vulnerable to UV damage.

We may not prevent aging, but we can slow down the process by using topical products with CoQ10. As we get older, we need more CoQ10 and we can maximize its benefits by supplementing it with other valuable antioxidants such as our C+Resveratrol Anti Aging Elixir!
