Instead, we recommend a 3 step approach based on holistic skin care that includes treatments for External, Internal and Spiritual health, all of which are required for a healthy body and healthy skin.

 

Topical Products – External

Topical skin care products are of course an essential piece of healthy vibrant skin.  All natural vitamin-rich ingredients like sea buckthorn berries, pomegranate, and naturally derived AHA’s have marvelous effects on the skin and also work to protect it from environmental damage all without the harsh and often physically toxic elements that chemically derived ingredients add to products. When looking at the health of the largest organ on your body, nourishing it with 100% natural skin care ingredients seems like the only choice.

 

Diet – Internal

If you put garbage in, you’ll get garbage out – that’s the saying with computers anyway and it’s equally true for the human body.  If you eat sugary, greasy foods, your complexion will show it.  If on the other hand your diet is comprised of healthy foods like raw organic veggies and fruits, organic whole grains, lots of pure water, and the appropriate dietary supplements, your skin will show the difference of these high quality internal “treatments”.

 

Mental and Spiritual Health

The brain (or 3rd eye, or the crown chakra) is often the space of the body where the spiritual is envisioned.  Good mental and spiritual health is the 3rd step to glorious skin and it’s often the most overlooked piece of the puzzle.   Notice though how much more alive and beautiful you feel when you’re happy, or think about how even a physically beautiful person looks when they’re angry or mean spirited; not so pretty right?  Be sure to treat yourself well, meditate, take long walks in the woods, exercise, sleep well, enjoy giving selflessly and other activities that enhance you spiritually.  Your skin and the whole rest of you will thank you for it!

What Are You Paying For When You Buy Skin Care Products; Ingredients or Advertising?

Do you know what you’re getting for the money you’re spending on your skin care products?

As a Licensed Aesthetician I’m frequently asked “why does that skin care products you use cost so much when the drugstore brand is less?”  I can tell you with certainty it’s because these products aren’t made with the same level of effective skin care ingredients many professional grade skin care products are.

These lower priced products are not generally based on quality ingredients.  Instead, they’re made predominantly with fillers like water, and “emulsifiers” made of synthetic waxes as well as ingredients that are anything but natural.  Also, a lot of the money that is spent to create the product is spent on marketing; not the product itself.

So, how can a product have high percentages of quality, results-producing ingredients but be sold at a low price in grocery stores, discount stores or multi-level sales companies?  It can’t.  When the price is low the percentage of “active” ingredients is significantly reduced and so are the claims of effectiveness.

So then you can count on the more expensive product to be worth it for sure right?  Not always.  For example, consider department stores.  The bottle may be beautiful and it comes at a higher price but the cost of the commercials for these manufacturers is exorbitant.  Television, magazines, paid ads are all promotional expenses that rely heavily on the image vs. the ingredients. Then of course the commissioned representative. Again this means there’s minimal room left for quality ingredients as the product’s budget is so ad heavy.

So what can you do if you want the most effective skin care products for your money? Look for a true professional product like those from Sevani or “true” professionals.  These products aren’t sold over the counter, instead, they’re sold in salons, spas and select establishments.

Bulgarian Rose Damascena – A Wealth Of Therapeutic Benefits

Woman sniffing Bulgarin RosesBulgarian Rose Damascena (Rosa damascena forma trigintipetala), also known as Bulgarian Rose Otto is a beautiful and very rare type of rose.  It is  grown mainly in Bulgaria and Turkey as only in these two countries do the right growing conditions exist for any large production of this delicate flower.   In fact, Kazanluk, Bulgaria is known as “The Valley Of The Roses” because there are so many rose plants growing there.  Can you imagine how it must smell!  Ahhhhhh.

 

Not only is Bulgarian Rose Damascena beautiful, it’s a plant that’s also packed with therapeutic benefits.  With regards to skin care Bulgarian Rose is a wonderful anti-inflammatory agent and tissue regenerator.  It is also high in antioxidants and offers amazing properties of hydration and redness reduction.

 

Those in aromatherapy use Bulgarian Rose Damascena oil to help calm and relax.  It’s good for helping those in grief or emotional distress as well as individuals suffering from depression.  Rose Damascene oil is also highly recommended for moving through the loss of a loved one.

 

As with any therapeutic grade herb, oil or other plant based product, it’s cultivation and preparation must be just so in order to retain the maximum amount of beneficial properties possible.  Because this area of Blugaria and Turkey has been cultivating this unique species of rose for many many years, they’re experts at harvesting the flowers at the right time, as well as processing them correctly (steam distilled in copper kettles, etc) so that the beneficial properties of Rose Damascene are transferred to the oil in the highest concentrations possible.

 

When processing Bulgarian Rose there is a by-product of the steam distillation of called a hydrosol or hydrolat.  Hydrosol is a diluted but highly prized rosewater used as a tonique and particularly beneficial when combined with other botanicals.  Hydrosols offer a variety of benefits are are used commonly in cosmetics for both fragrance as well as it’s anti inflammatory properties, redness reduction and other beneficial properties,  as well as in aromatherapy to address emotional distress.

As a highly sensitive person,   I discovered early on in my life what toxins were and why I personally (as well as others) should avoid them.  As an Aesthetician with a love and passion for natural ingredients, I learned that skin care products are often based on ingredients that “may be” effective yet in the end aren’t good for you or the planet.
