Acne – It Can Be A Problem For ANY Age But Don’t Let Your Beauty Products Make It Worse!

mature woman her skin and acneAcne isn’t just for teenagers. It can affect people of all ages and is often a big complaint for women who are going through peri-menopause, as well as pregnancy. These times in life, like our teenage years, are ones of hormonal changes which are known for triggering acne breakouts amongst other things!

Adult acne can be a challenge since many treatments on the market are very harsh and dry out skin causing redness, irritation, and, in the end, actually end up making the acne worse.

In order to understand why so many commercial acne treatments have it wrong, its important to understand just what acne is…

Acne is an inflammation and accumulation of dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum (the natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands in your skin).  It begins deep within your skin in the dermis in the hair follicle. When your follicle becomes infected with this skin cell, bacteira, sebum goop, a zit (or whitehead) appears.

Your acne may also surface in the form of cystic acne which can be very painful. Or, a black head; a pimple that has not yet become infected and is simply a black plug in the pore.

Many people think that acne is caused by a lack of hygiene but actually, washing your face too often can aggravate acne. Over washing actually opens up the pustules and spreads the bacteria to other parts of your face. We recommend gentle cleansing and no scrubbing because it does the same thing.  And, do not pick at your face to avoid further infection, spread of bacteria, and scarring.

Now that we understand what acne is, we can treat it more effectively.  Commercial acne treatments often strip the skin of ALL oil on their quest to reduce zits, but, our bodies do not respond well to this type of treatment.  At first it may seem like it, but, when your body realizes the skin has been stripped of its oils and sebum by these harsh cleansers, it rushes to make more.  And, because our bodies are really smart – they begin making extra too to avoid future shortages.  Guess what that does.  Extra oil and sebum makes extra acne.

When you use natural beauty products like we make here at Sevani though that utilize organic oils, gentle botanicals and fruit extracts, only the finest totally natural preservative available, and that are free of any harsh chemicals, pore clogging waxes or synthetic ingredients, you’ll find that your body is able to keep a natural balance and effectively reduce, and often even eliminate the cycle of acne.

Don’t take our word for it though – try Sevani today and see how our products can help you effectively treat acne naturally!  Unlike when you use those harsh commercial acne treatments, you’ll see a difference that’s real, that will last, and most importantly, will leave you acne free.

Sevani Uses Licorice Root As A Tasty Treat For The Skin

licorice root in sevani eye repair cream bottle

When many of us think of licorice those yummy strings of red and black candy are what often come to mind, but there is much more to licorice, especially with regards to beauty.

Used in Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for inflammation, burns, wounds and other general skin problems for many years, licorice is very soothing to dry or irritated skin.  These same properties have made licorice an excellent acne treatment as well.

Licorice Root has also been found to reduce hyper pigmentation and other forms of skin discoloration.  And, it has been found to aid in reducing the redness and inflammation of Rosacea gently.

What makes licorice root so effective for skin care?  In the early 1990s Japanese scientists discovered the substances in the herb that were highly beneficial for the skin.  These substances include:

licorice root in sevani advanced complexion corrector bottle

Glabridin ~ Glabridin is an incredible skin whitening agent.  It is enormously helpful in decreasing melanin production and re-balancing the dermal cells.  The Glabridin in Licorice root does all this gently too; unlike other chemical skin brighteners.  These properties help make licorice root ideal for use under the eyes where pigment exists, and is often unwanted – at least in such high doses!

Glabrene ~ Glabrene has been found to be a potent anti-oxidant and appears to be just as powerful as natural Vitamin E.

Licochalcone ~ Licochalcone offers amazingly effective anti-acne properties like the regulation of oil production as well as the elimination of bacteria on the skin. It also helps to soothe Rosacea & acne-prone skin helping to make licorice root the perfect ingredient for calming allergy prone and/or sensitive skin types.

Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate ~ Steryl Glycyrrhetinate provides soothing anti-inflammatory benefits, which are needed by those with Rosacea, acne, and sensitive skin to help curb redness and reduce the effects of these conditions oveall.

While all of these components of Licorice root sound fantastic individually, together, they make Licorice root extract into an ingredient that is a truly amazing natural skin care remedy!

Try organic Licorice root extract in the Sevani natural beauty products shown here, as well as many of the other luxury skin care formulation we’ve created that are available from fine retailers everywhere.   You’ll see instantly why we just love this skin care ingredient!

Sevani’s ECOCERT Organic Preservative Offers MORE Than The Others

ECOCERT preservative from radishes Leucidal in SevaniSevani is a 100% natural beauty product line and as such, even our preservative is natural.  Many other formulations that claim to be natural or organic don’t in fact use naturally derived preservatives at all.  Instead, preservatives, while essential in beauty formulations, seem to be one of those “exceptions” when it comes to natural beauty products.  To us though, there are no exceptions!  Sevani is totally natural, all the way down to our ECOCERT Organic preservative!

Leucidal (Leuconostoc) is an ECOCERT organic preservative from radish root ferment filtrate that inhibits bacteria, mold, and all the other nasties that are known to find their way into skin care products.  Not only that though, radish root ferment filrate is also a natural peptide for soft, smooth and radiant skin which also inhibits the aging process AND contains natural Salicylic Acid too!

Salicylic Acid is really fantastic for the skin.  It has the capacity for deep pore penetration which makes it an excellent choice for fighting acne.  When the dead skin and debris attempt to plug the delicate pores of your skin, blackheads, whiteheads and acne eruptions result.  Salicylic Acid helps flush out these impurities and keeps your pores clean and acne FREE.

It also gently exfoliates the skin which keeps the dead skin out of your pores in the first place.  This helps break the cycle of acne and instead, replaces it with a clean, clear complexion.  Not only that, Salicylic Acid has also been found to help reduce and even eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and helps smooth the skin to support a youthful glow.

Because we of course include our ECOCERT Organic preservative Leucidal in most of our emulsions, you’ll reap all of these wonderful benefits daily to prevent and renew with Sevani natural beauty products!  The ability to refine skin texture, inhibit acne causing bacteria, and minimize redness, rosacea and discoloration – all in an ECOCERT organic preservative, not too mention the other incredible ingredients!

See how fabulous truly natural skin care can be.  Ditch the chemical preservatives and enjoy the positively pure positively powerful natural beauty possible from Sevani.   Sevani is considered a “champion” and “innovator” on the Environmental Working Groups Database for Safe Cosmetics, confirming our commitment to non toxic beauty!

Natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids Are Gentle Yet Effective – Even For Those With Rosacea

Alpha Hydroxy Acids for Sensitive Skin Red Headed WomanAlpha Hydroxy Acids offer a myriad of amazing benefits for the skin, but, today, the AHAs found in the majority of beauty products on the market are contraindicated for those with Rosacea and other skin sensitivities.

This isn’t because Alpha Hydroxy Acids are bad for people with Rosacea, its because these particular AHAs are synthetically produced and as a result they can be quite harsh on the skin even while providing so many benefits.

Natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids are different though.

You see, AHAs aren’t new, in fact, they’ve long been known throughout history to support healthy, youthful skin; and in these days there weren’t chemists or pharmaceutical companies to make them.  Instead, they used naturally occurring Alphy Hydroxy Acids.

Take Cleopatra for example.  She used lactic acid (milk sugar) to improve her complexion and, throughout the years, many other women (and even some men) like her have used the natural AHAs found in  fruits, milk, and sugar cane to do the same

These naturally occurring Alpha Hydroxy Acids are known to be gentle, yet, at the same time, they’re just as, if not more so effective than their synthetic counterparts.  As a result, naturally sourced AHAs can be used and enjoyed even by those with Rosacea!

Unfortunately, with the advent of synthetic AHAs people began to lose touch with the naturally sourced ones and so they’re not always easy to find.  Luckily, though, more and more beauty product manufacturers like Sevani are going back to nature for ingredients, including Alpha Hydroxy Acids.  This is excellent news for anyone with sensitive skin because as we said, natural AHAs will be gentle on your skin yet still provide you with the same effects of reduced age spots and scarring, decreased acne, smoother skin, even tone and more that AHAs are known to provide.

In addition, Sevani goes the extra mile by adding in anti-inflammatory agents such as licorice root, evening primrose and more to our natural beauty products to further reduce sensitivity so that even the most sensitive of skin types can use products like the  AHA cleanser and/or the Rapid Renewal Creme.

So, whatever your skin type – even if its sensitive – be sure to include the benefits of natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids in your skin care regimen if you aren’t already.  They have SO much to offer and can help you look your best naturally.

Oil Myths; Is Oil “Really” Bad for Acne and Blemishes?

oils and essences for the skinIn short, the answer is almost always “NO”!

If you have experienced acne, hormonal breakouts or even just an occasional blemish at some point you were probably advised to go “oil free”.
In actuality however, drying out the skin may actually exacerbate the problem.

Why?  Pretty simple.  Oil has a specific purpose.  Oil naturally lubricates the skin for hydration and protection.  When we “strip” the skin of all of the oil, it sends a message back to the oil glands to protect!  As a result your skin may overproduce oil, rendering the breakouts worse then they were before.

Common breakouts, acne, and Rosacea are often a result of hormonal imbalance, bacteria formation and/ or the use of wax filled pore clogging skin care products.  In addition, there is often an overproduction of oil from the glands creating an environment in which acne can thrive.   So this is why it was once thought to strip the skin of oil was a good idea.

Wrong!  Creating a balance is the ideal while stripping the skin of all oil leads to accelerated aging, irritation and makes you photo sensitive.  Not ideal!

Oil is not a bad thing.  Too much of anything can cause problems of course, but, unfortunately many acne and blemish products are geared toward removing all the oil on the skin  and as a result are too harsh and drying.

It’s essential to replenish that moisture to prevent over-production oil, but also to protect your skin.  Dry skin does not age well since it’s lacking hydration, and moisture is what keeps our skin supple.  So, what are the options?

You can use wax-free anti-inflammatory face creams to balance, hydrate and prevent accelerated aging without the fear of them causing breakouts.  In addition look for ingredients like, willowbark, licorice root, natural fruit acids, and evening primrose all of which offer anti inflammatory properties; and reducing inflammation is the key to eliminating redness, acne blemishes, and preventing aging.

White and black willowbark and all-natural fruit acids also work to naturally dissolve the surface skin cells which can accumulate creating more cells for bacteria to thrive on and thereby creating more acne.  By using natural exfoliators such as these though, not only can you refine the texture of your skin but you can also minimize breakouts, regulate oil and have a healthy glow too!

As in all things, balance is the key for your skin.  Embrace the natural oil your skin produces by using natural, wax free skin care products that care for your skin without stripping away the naturally beneficial oil already and you’ll see a major improvement in the amount of acne and blemishes as well as your skin overall.
