Sevani’s Top 10 Natural Beauty and Lifestyle Tips

woman at spa for top ten natural beauty tipsHere at Sevani we have some natural beauty tips and tricks we follow that make greening your skin care routine (and even your lifestyle) easier.  This way, you not only get amazing skin but, you don’t have to damage the earth or our animal friends to get it either!

We hope you enjoy our top ten natural beauty tips and, as always, if you have questions just leave us a comment or contact us at sevanibeauty.com.  We’re always happy to help!

1. Incorporate Raw, Organic Fruits and Veggies Into Your Diet

Eat a salad a day.  Enjoy a special drink like our beauty smoothie as your new breakfast, or, find another way that works for you to incorporate fresh organic fruits and veggies into your diet.  It’s been proven that the more raw organic foods you eat the more your body can take advantage of all the benefits these foods offer resulting in a healthier overall body – including your skin!

2. Choose Only Certified Cruelty Free Products

With the news a few weeks ago that many major beauty brands thought to have previously ceased animal testing in order to sell in China it makes it even more important to choose cruelty free products than ever before.  There is no reason for animal testing and you should never support a company with your hard earned money that tests its products and/or ingredients on our animal brothers and sisters.

3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose Packaging

And, choose products and companies, like Sevani, that make this easy for you.  Afterall, we chose amber glass as the packaging method for our natural beauty products in part because of how easy it is to repurpose, reuse, and recycle.  Yes, glass is easier to recyle and uses less chemicals to create!

4. Consider Vegan Diets

The vegan diet has been proven to help improve health and wellness in many ways, including reducing hormonal acne challenges and more.  Even reducing the amount of high fat dairy you eat for example can make a big difference in the appearance of your skin if you’re not ready to go totally vegan.   Vegan beauty products, clothing, shoes, and more are important to consider as well.

5. Natural Sources For Ingredients Are More Powerful And Earth Friendly

Utilize naturally sourced ingredients such as mushroom derived Hyaluronic Acid or Goji Berries for Vitamin C.  You’ll find these natural ingredients offer many more benefits for your skin and, are more easily absorbed and utilized by your body than their chemically derived counter parts.  Plus, your kin Absorbs Everything so consider that as well when you’re reading that ingredient list.

6. Don’t Worry Be Happy

Positive outlook = less stress and increased inner peace =healthy glow.  Seems so simple doesn’t it – but it’s true, it works and, it just feels better!  So, don’t worry, be happy and naturally beautiful.

7. Avoid Chemical Fragrances

Chemical fragrances are in many different personal care and beauty products but, they’re not required to inform you what these “fragrances” even are.  Generally, they’re generated by chemicals, and, as we said, natural is better – this goes for fragrances too.  Aromatherapy and essential oils are much safer and actually beneficial fragrances.

So, just because a product has a scent doesn’t mean it’s “bad” but, be sure to read the label to find out what is making that smell.  Most companies, like Sevani, that use only essential oils and plant extracts that end up giving the products their scents are happy to disclose exactly what is making those smells, whereas those products based on chemical fragrances will often just be labeled with “fragrance” or even “natural fragrance”.

8. Use Natural Cleaning Products

What do cleaning products have to do with natural beauty? A LOT!  When you clean, even if you’re using rubber gloves, your skin, particularly that on your face, is exposed to the mist and off sprays of the products you’re using.  Chose natural products to protect your skin and the earth!

9. Exercise Regularly

Feeling down, get moving.  Whether you enjoy Gardening, hiking, walking the dog, kayaking, yoga, swimming, or just goofing around with the kids in the yard, when you get outside and exercise it improves mood.  Plus exercise whether indoors or out is essential for healthy skin.

10. Enjoy Daily Meditation For Inner And Outer Beauty

Bringing daily meditation into your routine will not only give you amazing natural beauty benefits, but, your entire mind, body and soul will thank you.  Feeling like you can’t fit one more thing into your hectic day?  Even if you meditate for just 15 min a day you’ll reap these rewards!

While adopting all ten of these natural beauty tips would be ideal, following even some of these tips will help you reduce toxins both in your own body as well as in the earth, save innocent animals, and minimize the impact keeping your skin looking great has on the earth.  Start today and make a difference tomorrow!

Hydroquinone – A Common Beauty Ingredient That Lightens Skin…And A LOT More

Skull and Cross bones on bottle of beauty ingredientsSevani natural beauty products are the result of years of meticulous research in order to create skin care remedies that work withOUT the use of harsh, often toxic chemicals.  One of the many popular ingredients used by beauty product manufacturers today that we chose to avoid using is called Hydroquinone.

Hydroquinone is a cosmetic bleaching agent that evens the skin’s tone by suppressing the body’s natural production of melanin.  Melanin doesn’t just tint the skin though and give us that tan we all love.  It also protects us from the harsh rays of the sun.  By suppressing the body’s production of melanin, Hydroquinone actually reduces the skin’s natural protection against damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

Not only that, Hydroquinone has been found to penetrate the skin and potentially cause irreversible dammage to the connective tissue.  This could actually cause premature aging; something most beauty product users are trying to avoid!

Also, its been found that extended, regular use of hydroquinone may cause skin sensitivities to develop that weren’t present before.  The end result of these new skin conditions include blotches, and more discoloration.  The risk of skin sensitivities may also be increased by sun exposure while using products containing hydroquinone.

And, if you can believe it, there’s still more…

When Hydroquinone is absorbed into the bloodstream – as happens with the majority of products we rub onto the largest organ of our body – it has been known to lead to liver and kidney damage.

And, yep, you guessed it – Hydroquinone is considered to be a possible carcinogen!  Plus with so little known about ingredients like Hydroquinone it may also be “toxic” in other ways we’re not yet aware of.

There’s no reason to settle for controversial beauty ingredients with side effects like these though in order to get an even skin tone.  You can actually get the same effects from natural sources that don’t present any of these same problems.

Here at Sevani we use Licorice root and other plant based botanicals and essential oils in our formulations to help bring skin into balance and thereby create a  glowing, even complexion naturally and gently.  These Beauty ingredients offer wonderful skin lightening and brightening properties but without putting you at risk to UV rays, cancer, liver damage or any of the other side effects Hydroquinone is known for.

There’s no reason to risk your health for your beauty with yucky ingredients like these – enjoy non toxic beauty today with Sevani!

What To Do When Your Skin Is THIRSTY For Moisture

water for thirsty dry skin Dry Skin.  You may have it year round or maybe it just rears its ugly head during the winter or other specific times, but, either way when your skin is dry and thirsty for moisture you’ve got to give it the hydration craves right away!

If you don’t keep your skin moisturized it will become flaky and /or rough.  Acne and even wrinkles appear worse when your skin is dry too because those dead skin cells build up on the surface and fill in the imperfections making them appear more pronounced.  But, what can you do?  How can you get your dry skin the moisture it so desperately craves?  Here are some tips to help when you’re skin is thirsty.

Avoid Soaps

Be sure you’re not cleansing with soap.  Soap can dry your skin out even further than it already is, and really, its not good for cleansing any skin type.  Even gel cleansers are “soap like” and can strip your skin dry.  That tight feeling after you cleanse is often a result of a dramatic PH change which can contribute to dry skin.  Instead, use a creme based cleanser that’s soap free!  These types of cleansers will clean your skin while hydrating it too!

Exfoliate Daily

Exfoliation needs to become a big part of your daily skin care regimen.  You need to remove the dead skin cells in order for your moisturizer to penetrate more effectively.
We’re not referring to harsh scrubs or mechanical devices, no, they can actually break blood vessels of fragile skin.  All you need to do is massage your skin well when when cleansing to loosen dead cell debris.  Then,  a moisturizer with natural fruit acids that will dissolve skin cells to help exfoliate skin without any harsh ingredients or tools.

Utilize Beneficial Oils In Beauty Products And Diet

Incorporating beneficial oils into both your beauty products and your diet can not only help hydrate your skin but also help your skin hold onto this moisture longer.  Oils that are beneficial for dry skin include Avocado, Jojoba, Olive Squalane, Pomegranate and Argan Nut Oil.  Most of these also contain high doses of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), Vitamin E and other vitamins and actives that are incredibly beneficial for dry skin too.

Include Botanicals and Herbs Known For Hydrating Effects

Organic botanicals and herbs known for hydrating effects include Goji Berry, Red Tea, Neroli, Acai Berry, Green Tea, Sea Buckthorn Berry and Amalaki.  Use natural beauty products that contain these special botanicals and herbs at least twice daily for natural relief of dry skin.

If you use even just one of these tips you’ll notice a difference in the appearance of your dry skin.  Use all of these tips posted here  and your skin will be super grateful and definitely thank you with a glowing, healthy complexion so you can look your best!

Sacred Frankincense: Nature’s Miracle for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Boswellia tree leaves and flowers for Sacred FrankincenseMany folks only know Frankincense from its small part in the “Christmas Story”, but it’s history and use is far greater than a gift from one wise man to another.

Sacred Frankincense comes from the saps and resins of the Boswellia tree, pictured here.  It’s generally used as an Incense or an Essential Oil and is known to reduce anxiety and improve mood.  Recent research has shown these results to come from Frankincense’s high levels of incensole acetate; known for both these traits as well.

Studies have begun to show that Sacred Frankincense can also essentially dissolve the nucleus or “the brain” of cancer cells thereby destroying them and, thereby potentially curing cancer.

Spiritually sacred Frankincense is thought to awaken us to our higher purpose and promotes the ability to take stewardship over our lives while also remaining connected to the divine so we are more able to balance the ego with the spirit and stay on our path toward enlightenment.

That’s a LOT for a bit of tree sap!

Yet, there’s MORE

Sacred Frankincense is highly anti aging and works to repair and regenerate cells – including skin cells!  It is also a great antimicrobial and works as a natural preservative.  Actually, Frankincense worked so well as a preservative it was used in embalming!

Because Frankincense is natural it also delivers all of these benefits with a gentleness not present in commercially prepared products.  As a result, Frankincense makes a wonderful addition to Sevani’s serums for the eyes and face.

Sacred Frankincense is  a powerhouse of a natural skin care ingredient and we absolutely love the effects it provides.  Not only that, the fact that Frankincense is known to nurture you spiritually, mentally, and physically makes it an ideal representative of our holistic skin care philosophy.

Lavender Essential Oil – Beautiful and Very Beneficial

When you talk to most people about essential oils and aromatherapy even if they don’t know much, they usually know about Lavender Essential Oil.  Lavender is a beautiful plant, and it is a very popular scent because it’s known to be relaxing.  But, did you know Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) offers many, many benefits aside from stress relief?

Lavender is a very powerful essential oil and offers healing benefits for the entire body.  However, only “therapeutic” grade Lavender Oil offers the most benefits for our skin and mind.

Rest assured though that at Sevani we use only the best quality high altitude Lavender!  This means, our preparations are highly effective and you can be sure you’re only getting what you read on our label – real Lavender Essential Oil!

You’ll be glad to find too that the use of high quality Lavender in our vegan skin care products offers a wide array of benefits for your skin.  Here are just a few:

  • Promotes growth of new skin cells making it a highly effective for mature skin.
  • Has a healing effect on burns and sunburn
  • Reduces the appearance of acne and blemishes
  • Assists in healing psoriasis
  • Helps prevent scarring
  • Offers anti bacterial properties
  • Discourages fungal growth.
  • Excellent for soothing red irritated skin
