Why You May Want to Switch to Paraben Free Beauty Products

poision bottleHave you heard about Parabens yet?  Commonly used as a preservative in personal care and beauty products, parabens will be found on the product label under names like –

Methylparaben
Propylparaben
Ethylparaben
Butylparaben

You may find one or more parabens on a variety of the personal care and beauty products in your home including shampoos, lotions, deodorants, facial cleansers, and more.

You won’t, however, find any parabens in Sevani

Instead, we use an all natural preservative system based on organic ingredients and extracts including ECOCERT ingredients for a completely natural and paraben free way to preserve our natural beauty products.  Why is avoiding parabens so important?  For one they’ve recently been linked to breast cancer among other health problems.  The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics says about Parabens:

A 2004 UK study detected traces of five parabens in the breast cancer tumors of 19 out of 20 women studied. This small study does not prove a causal relationship between parabens and breast cancer, but it is important because it detected the presence of intact parabens – unaltered by the body’s metabolism – which is an indication of the chemicals’ ability to penetrate skin and remain in breast tissue.  As we know, ingredients can penetrate the skin so we opt to use ingredients found in nature.

Of greatest concern is that these parabens are known to disrupt hormone function, an effect that is linked to increased risk of breast cancer and reproductive toxicity. Parabens are said to mimic estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors on cells. They also increase the expression of genes usually regulated by estradiol (a form of estrogen); these genes cause human breast tumor cells to grow and multiply in cellular studies.

As you can see, Parabens are pretty questionable.  So, head to your bathroom, your medicine cabinet, make up bag, and wherever else you keep your personal care and beauty products and begin reading those labels.  If you find parabens in any form, consider tossing them “if” you are concerned as we are.  I’m not generally one to recommend waste, but, parabens  may have no place on planet earth.  These ingredients are quite controversial, and apparently newer parabens sourced from nature are now readily available but the controversy remains.  If we have other options, we are always going to seek them first for our skin and our beauty products.

What should you do if you cleared out the Parabens from your health and beauty regimine?  Invest in some high quality, honestly natural beauty products like Sevani that avoid the use of Parabens in their products.

Also be weary of claims of “preservative free” as this is not always an ideal option either.  The shelf life may be shorter and you may not get the best value for your money as a result. Stick with us here and learn how to ready your labels.

Stay safe and ditch those paraben filled personal care and beauty products today and exchange them for safe, effective, paraben free products that have the highest concerns for your health and safety in mind; so much so they’d never use that type of ingredient in their formulas – ever.

And don’t forget to ask about the products used at the salon or spa you visit as well.  If there not paraben free, find another salon or you’re still being exposed to these toxins.
