Fighting Free Radical Damage with Antioxidants

If you care to look your best as you age, then you should be aware of the damages free radicals can cause to your skin.  And of course, what you can do to prevent such damage.

Free radicals are molecules that contribute to aging, tissue damage and some other forms of diseases. They are unstable in nature and they seek to bond to other molecules such as healthy cells and destroy them. This leads to a detrimental process.  Free radicals work by stealing electrons from other molecules. This process is normal if they happen outside our body, but once they enter our system, this results in damage. Toxins, sun damage, UV radiation, pollution and poor nutrition all may contribute to free radical damage. Smoking is also a major contributor.  The best way to fight free radical damage is via antioxidants and of course avoiding toxins. Antioxidants are found in some of the foods we eat like berries, broccoli, tomatoes, garlic, spinach, tea, carrots, soy and whole grains. They should also be present in your skin care products to fight premature aging.

Your best source of antioxidants for skin care are offered via natural and organic skin care products. They are the safest and healthier for your skin.  Sevani Beauty Products offer a high powered antioxidant blend rich in Vitamin C, all derived from beautiful fruits like goji, acai berry, indian gooseberry, pomegranate, rosehip and even sea buckthorn extracts (very high in C and A).  Look for products that contain a combination of the following.

  • Vitamin C– This antioxidant is often unstable in many skin care formulations and sold more for label appeal.  However, cutting-edge science has discovered some of the most stable forms of this essential antioxidant to be found in berries, particularly the ones named above.  Combining berry sources with stable c sources has yielded incredible results.  We also feel that you should supplement orally for maximum benefits but always seek medical advice.
  • Coenzyme Q10– Your body also produces this natural antioxidant but as we age, the efficiency to produce this is decreased. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) can be considered one of the most potent antioxidants in the body. The use of skin care products with CoQ10 helps you make up for the lack of its production and firms and tightens aging skin.
  • Vitamin E– This is also an antioxidant that helps fight free radicals. When taken orally, it helps in the formation of red blood cells and helps the body utilize vitamin K.   It is also present in many botanical ingredients for skin care benefits.
  • Vitamin A– This vitamin is known as a wrinkle eliminator and can reduce fine lines in the skin. It also helps fade away age spots. Its antioxidant properties help improve skin conditions like acne and psoriasis.  Vitamin A is present in Rosehip (naturally) and many other botanical nutrients.
  • Aloe Vera–  rich in multiple essential minerals and vitamins this natural wonder offers antioxidant benefits while also soothing and moisturizing the skin.   Combined with other antioxidants, you can protect and renew for radiant skin.

Other good antioxidants include beta-carotene, alpha lipoic acid and gluthathione. The root cause of skin aging is the free radicals that destroy our cells. Retard the process of skin aging with products that contain antioxidants.
