Good Night’s Sleep: Anti-Aging Benefits

Our overall health plays an important part in the aging process.  We do a lot of things that my cause us stress such as working too many hours.  In order for the body to function at its optimum level, adequate rest is needed. A good nights sleep is the best way to preserve our youth and have a clearer mind for daily activities. So you may wonder what may happen as a result of sleep deprivation?

The immune system deteriorates– Our immune system is very complex and it is made up of several types of cells and proteins that are responsible in keeping foreign substances such as colds or flu free from our body. A lot of our cells grow as we sleep and if we put ourselves in a position where we always lack sleep, our body’s ability to respond against bacterial and viral infection also decreases.  Immunity is also essential for beautiful, clear and vibrant skin.

Your memory becomes impaired– A good night’s sleep has the capacity to trigger changes in the brain that helps contribute to improved memory. In the past, Sigmund Freud suspected that what a person learned during the day is rehearsed in our dreams and this leads to the formation of memory.  Now, there is evidence that showed that memory is stabilized and enhanced as a person sleeps.

You experience physical fatigue– Lack of sleep will mean that your performance on physical and mental tasks may be inadequate. Your body needs to rest properly and if you lack sleep, you will feel lightheaded and no matter how much you eat, you will still feel hungry which can also lead to weight problems.  Adrenal fatigue may also set in contributing to additional symptoms and weight issues as well.

In summary, sleep deprivation may lead to diseases and premature aging.  That’s right, lack of sleep may even accelerate the aging process.  What can you do to keep the skin youthful?

1.  Sleep on a 400 threat count or better pillow case.  This will be softer and less harsh on the skin, resulting in less wrinkling of the skin due to face positioning during the sleep cycle.

2.  Cleanse your skin thoroughly and use quality chemical free products to protect your skin at night.  Skin cells regenerate at night.  This is another reason adequate sleep is essential for beauty.

3.  Sleep a full 7-8 hours whenever possible.  Remove bright lit clocks, tv’s or phones from your room “or” put electrical tape on the flash on your phone or clocks to prevent interrupted sleep.  Light should not be present during the sleep cycle.

4.  Try to get an extra 30 minutes of rest by going to bed earlier or taking daily naps,  we bet you notice the difference in your skin!

Good sound sleep, balanced diet and high quality non-toxic skin care products will help you deter the aging process.
